As human beings, one of the most painful things we can experience is a sense of utter aloneness. The worst punishment we have generated for people is solitary confinement. It is challenging enough to go through loss and discouragement. But to do so with a sense of aloneness becomes unbearable.
In my work with clients, one of my first objectives is to undo aloneness. This is done primarily through connecting with them emotionally in the moment. I don't have to have gone through the same experiences as them or know exactly what they felt at that time, but I can understand what it feels like for them in the moment they are sharing with me.
You can only encounter reality experientially
Emotions give context to what someone is attempting to reveal. You can understand something in theory or concept. But when you connect with someone in the moment, you understand if the sadness they are expressing is a 3 of 10 or an 8 of 10, which gives it a very different meaning.
Numerous spiritual writings throughout history from many different faiths assert that everything is connected and one. Furthermore, that we are blind to this fact because the way we perceive reality is distorted. It is my opinion, the only way we come to awareness of this reality is experientially, not by insight or intellectual understanding. You need to have the experience of feeling understood by someone. You have to know not just believe.
You have to put in the work
You have to put in the hard work of consistently meditating or engaging in your spiritual practices. You have to get out in nature to encounter transcendence. This is where most people fall short. They read blogs, watch documentaries, attend seminars, but never do the consistent effort to have the experience.
Once you have sufficient relational interactions to internalize the care of others or spend the time in nature or meditating to develop the perception of the oneness of all things, which quantum physics validates by the way, you will then truly never be alone. The payoff for putting in the time is well worth it.
Now get out there and do the work!
