You! Yes you, have greatness inside of you. Don't give me excuses about your age, old or young, or lack of education, or having children, or challenges associated with where you live. I can sit her all day and give you example after example of individuals who overcome even greater obstacles to become successful and achieve their dreams.
I have worked with multi-millionaires to professional athletes. I can tell you with certainty, the majority of these individuals are not more intelligent or naturally gifted than you are. Then how have they become so successful you ask? There are three KEYS to success in my experience: discovering your passion or why; acquiring the necessary knowledge associated with your field of endeavor; and persistence, which is associated with mindset.
Identifying your "WHY"
I have written numerous times about the importance of identifying your WHY. What I would like to emphasis today is that it can be a much more complex process than people give it credit for. There are numerous emotional blocks that can get in your way. If you struggle to achieve the goal of finding your passion or why, obtain the help of someone like myself or use the many resources in the way of books and assessments that are available. A great one to begin with is Simon Sinek's, Start with Why. Take the time to get clarity on this point. I cannot overemphasize the importance of it prior to beginning to pursue your goal or dream.
The next step is getting control of your mindset. Everyone talks and writes about the importance of it. The primary reason this is so is due to the fact that mindset controls your energy and thinking. Your emotional brain is faster than your cognitive brain for survival reasons. It makes a quick assessment of your surroundings. You cannot think beyond what you feel. This is where so many cognitive approaches fail.
Releasing emotional memories to sustain the necessary mindset
Furthermore, you cannot trick this part of your brain into believing something you don't on a subconscious level. Our emotional reactions are driven by our implicit memory system. When an event occurs, you are not only having an emotional response to the present moment but all the unresolved emotional memories related to that theme are being activated. If the present challenge triggers a whole history of feeling shame and inadequacy, this will crush anyone's mindset. To change this requires working through and releasing these emotional memories. You will then be capable of maintaining the mindset that is necessary to succeed.
You are capable of becoming great
If you have clarity on your why and passion, have worked through your emotional blocks associated with maintaining the necessary mindset, and are humble and open to learning, I believe the last area will take care of itself. The ability to sustain your enthusiasm and be energized by your passion and purpose will allow you to stay in pursuit of your goal long enough to acquire the specialized knowledge to succeed.
These three goals can be accomplished by anyone who truly desires to achieve their dreams. You are as capable of becoming great as anyone else. In addition, don't let anyone define what great means to you. It may consist of being the best parent you are capable of or running a small restaurant. Life is yours to choose. But whatever you decide, believe you are more than able of becoming great at it.
