"An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
You Have to Get In The Game to Win
So many people are waiting for the perfect time or opportunity to take action but almost always, success begins when you actually get moving... even if you find out you were moving in the wrong direction.
When you stand on the sideline waiting for the ideal opportunity for the perfect play, you end up so far behind even that play executed perfectly won't make up for the missed opportunity. Do not stand on the sideline waiting for guaranteed victory before getting into the game. Never forget, there is no way to win until you get in the game and play.
An antidote to 'analysis paralysis' is taking action. When you take a step, even a small one, you begin creating momentum.
A very accomplished client of mine told me the problem he sees most people have is waiting for the perfect idea. After building a very successful business, he's learned a critical lesson:
"Success doesn't go to the person with the best idea, but to the one who's best at implementing it."
In other words, he saying the same thing Ralph Waldo Emerson said: An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory. It's proven itself to be true throughout the ages and it's still true today.
"I Know What To Do...
I'm Just Not Doing It!"
You've read all of the books and you still struggle with procrastination, lack of focus, imposter syndrome, fear of failure, and even a fear of success.
You Don't Need Another Book!
Everything You Do Has Value
Everything you do, regardless of the results, helps you become great at that something. To become great you must engage in deliberate practice and have more experiences engaging in that action. Every single thing you do will have value in achieving your goal.
There are far too many people who have brilliant ideas but have taken no action on any of them. Take action and move forward. If you've ever tried to turn the steering wheel on a car that's standing still you know how much more difficult that is than putting the car into motion and turning the wheel with very little effort.
Move forward and adjust as you go. There is always some sort of action you can take that will give you feedback, build experience, and in the worst case, help you understand what NOT to do the next time.
The Simple Step to Take Right Now
Find a small win you can enjoy right now. When I say small, I mean small. Anything action you take right now will get you moving and moving is what you need in order to win. Even if you find out later you were moving in the wrong direction, you movement helped you reach your goal.
But, whatever you do take action on, do it with excellence. That doesn't mean do it perfectly. Put your best effort into it even if it's not perfect. Even the most menial tasks performed with excellence will shift your mindset and that will add to your future success.
How Your Subconscious Freezes You
We've all experienced moments in our history (even when we were just toddlers) in which we were helpless and powerless to act. Science has show our subconscious reacts to these in the present moment, leaving us immobilized and frozen.
When you take action on something, no matter how small, you get into a more empowered state. This will help you avoid dissociating into a "body memory" of being helpless. If this is a bit confusing, I'd highly recommend signing up for a free video training on understanding your internal blocks.
Challenge yourself today to do something small, anything. You are capable and always have a choice in how you respond to any event. Now get going!
